James 1:13-16New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
13 No one, when tempted, should say, “I am being tempted by God”;
for God cannot be tempted by evil and he himself tempts no one.
14 But one is tempted by one’s own desire, being lured and enticed by it;
15 then, when that desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and that sin,
when it is fully grown, gives birth to death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved.[a]
1. Trials help our Perseverance
James 1:12 God blesses those who patiently endure
testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the
crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
Let us not become weary in doing good,
for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if WE do not give up
So do not throw away your confidence;
it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere
so that when you have done the will of God,
you will receive what he has promised.
Sometimes we suffer because of our own mistakes.
Hosea 4:6 my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.
“Because you have rejected knowledge,
Proverbs 19:2-3 Desire without knowledge is not good–
how much more will hasty feet miss the way!
A person’s own folly leads to their ruin,
yet their heart rages against the LORD.
Galatians 6:5Amplified Bible (AMP)
Assume your own responsibility
5 For every person will have to bear [with patience] his own burden
[of faults and shortcomings for which he alone is responsible].
Philippians 4:6Amplified Bible (AMP)
6 Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything
[every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving,
continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
5 Examine and test and evaluat
and showing the proper fruits of it. Test and prove yourselves
Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you—unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected?
3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
2 Those who think they know something do not yet know anything as they should.
26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?”
27 He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul,
and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
28 And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.”
