3 The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love:
therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
4 But God is so rich in mercy and loves us with such intense love
5 that, even when we were dead
because of our acts of disobedience, he brought us to life along with the Messiah —
it is by grace that you have been delivered.
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have
compassion on the son of her womb?
yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.
Revelation 2:1-5 New King James Version (NKJV)
2 “To the angel of the church of Ephesus write,
‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand,
who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands:
2 “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear
those who are evil.
And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not,
and have found them liars;
3 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored
for My name’s sake and have not become weary.
4 Nevertheless I have this against you,
that you have left your first love.
5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen;
repent and do the first works, or
else I will come to you quickly and
remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.
28 Then they said to him, “What must we do to perform
the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God,
that you believe in him whom he has sent
28 Then they asked Him, “What are we to do, so that we may
habitually be doing the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered, “This is the work of God: that you believe
[adhere to, trust in, rely on, and have faith] in the One whom He has sent.”
2 “To the angel (divine messenger) of the church in [a]Ephesus write:
“These are the words of the One who holds [firmly] the seven stars
[which are the angels or messengers of the seven churches] in His right hand, the One who walks among the seven golden lampstands (the seven churches):
2 ‘I know [b]your deeds and your toil, and your patient endurance,
and that you cannot tolerate those who are evil, and
have tested and critically appraised those who call themselves apostles (special messengers,
personally chosen representatives, of Christ), and [in fact] are not, and
have found them to be liars and impostors;
3 and [I know that] you [who believe] are enduring patiently and
are bearing up for My name’s sake, and
that you have not grown weary [of being faithful to the truth].
4 But I have this [charge] against you,that you have left your first love
[you have lost the depth of love that you first had for Me].
5 So remember the heights from which you have fallen, and repent
[change your inner self—your old way of thinking, your sinful behavior—
seek God’s will] and do the works you did at first [when you first knew Me]; otherwise,
I will visit you and remove your lampstand (the church, its impact) from its place
—unless you repent.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
James 4:6 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
6 But he gives all the more grace; therefore it says,
5 Examine and test and evaluat
and showing the proper fruits of it. Test and prove yourselves
Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you—unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected?
3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
2 Those who think they know something do not yet know anything as they should.
26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?”
27 He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul,
and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
28 And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.”
