17 the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart]
because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because
He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.
4 among them the god of this world [Satan] has blinded the minds
of the unbelieving to prevent them from seeing the illuminating
light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own insight.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
13 Come now [and pay attention to this], you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go
to such and such a city, and spend a year there and carry on our business and make a profit.”
14 [a]Yet you do not know [the least thing] [b]about what may happen in your life tomorrow.
[What is secure in your life?] You are merely a vapor [like a puff of smoke or
a wisp of steam from a cooking pot] that is visible for a little while and then
vanishes [into thin air].
15 Instead [c]you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and we will do this or that.”
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
James 4:6 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
6 But he gives all the more grace; therefore it says,
5 Examine and test and evaluat
and showing the proper fruits of it. Test and prove yourselves
Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you—unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected?
3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
2 Those who think they know something do not yet know anything as they should.
26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?”
27 He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul,
and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
28 And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.”
